Most driveways are made of asphalt. They need to be cleaned, repaired, and sealed when cracks appear. Cracks are inevitable and need to be sealed by your local paving contractors to ensure the longevity of the asphalt. The attached video demonstrates how driveway repairs are carried out.

The contractor first assesses the state of the driveway. The dirt, grime, and oil on the driveway need to be cleaned off. This ensures the sealant adheres to the asphalt. An oil spot primer is poured and brushed on visible oil spots. Cracks are sealed to prevent water from entering the asphalt and wearing away its base. The cracks are cleaned, and a special machine is used to melt a rubber compound and pour it onto the cracks. The rubber compound is specially formulated to expand and contract with the crack, thus ensuring any liquid doesn’t seep in.

A special asphalt emulsion sealant is finally applied to protect the driveway from salt, water, and UV rays. It’s durable and non-slip. The sealant is in a tank and is pumped out onto the driveway using a hose. Special brooms are used to coat the sealant evenly. Seal coat your driveway every three to four years to lengthen its lifespan. Contact your local paving contractors for quotes and hire a company that has great reviews.
